CONCLUSION OF THE LITVAK DAYS CONFERENCE
The 2nd Conference ‘No Simple Stories: Lithuanian Jewry in Historical Perspective’, held 17th -19th December 2012 in London concluded today with a concert at Sandy’s Row Synagogue by DUO VERSUS.
The pairing of two like-minded musicians Abe McWilliams, violin and Martynas Levickis, accordion, intrigued the audience by their passionate exploration of the diverse repertoire possibilities of the union between the violin and the accordion. The programme included music by Jonas Tamulionis, Arvo Pärt, Vladimir Fedotov, George Enescu, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ástor Pantaleón Piazzolla and Béla Bartók.
The synagogue was transformed by the mastery of the two musicians. Being at home with different styles, including improvisation and folk music, Abe and Martynas received standing ovations from the participants and proved, once again, their ability to captivate their listeners and created an effect which was different to most traditional ensembles. “This was truly intimate experience, which I will cherish for a long time”, said one of the listeners.
