Commander of NATO’s Allied Maritime Command to visit Vilnius
On September 10 Vice Admiral Peter Derek Hudson (Royal Navy), the Commander of the NATO Maritime Command (MARCOM) at Northwood, will come for a visit to Lithuania.
The Vice Admiral will meet with Defence Policy Director of the Ministry of National Defence Vaidotas Urbelis, Chief of Defence of Lithuania Major General Jonas Vytautas Žukas, and Commander-in-Chief of the Lithuanian Navy Rear Admiral (lower half) Kęstutis Macijauskas at the Ministry of National Defence in Vilnius.
At the Ministry of National Defence Baltic defence cooperation, Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian cooperation with NATO allies, and long-term plans of assigning ships to the Standing NATO Mine Counter-Measures Group ONE (SNMCMG1) will be represented to Commander MARCOM. The Group is also a part of the NATO Response Force (NRF) and is subordinate to the NATO Maritime Command. Currently SNMCMG1 vessels are deployed in the Baltic Sea in order to ensure maritime security and NATO solidarity and commitments to collective defence. From August till December of this year the Group is under command of a Lithuanian officer.
During the visit RDML P. Hudson will deliver an announcement at the Institute of International Relations and Political Science of Vilnius University.
