British journalist awarded with Lithuanian medal of merits
British journalist Edward Lucas is being awarded with the Lithuanian Medal of Merit by National Defence minister Rasa Juknevičienė for strenghtening the country‘s national defence. Edward Lucas, who will be awarded on Wednesday is a journalist for the Economist and an expert on Middle and Eastern European politics and economy.

Lucas was the first foreign person to get a Lithuanian visa No. 0001 and witnessed the events of March 11 in 1990 in Vilnius.Twenty years ago he worked as an adviser for Lithuania‘s Supreme Council, helping spread the news about Lithuanian independence around the world.Recently Lucas has published a book The New Cold War, in which a deep analysis on post-soviet countries, including Lithuania, is made.
