"BALTIC COUNTRIES DIASPORA" - CONFERENCE AT GLASGOW UNIVERSITY

On 7-8 of February, Counsellor of the Embassy of Lithuania in the UK Mrs. Gitana Kilinskaitė participated in the conference „A Long Way from Home: The Baltic People in the United Kingdom“, held in Glasgow.

 

It’s the first academic event for Baltic States Diasporas in UK, organised by Glasgow University together with Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian embassies. “This initiative is a great opportunity to bring together academics who research Baltic migration processes and Diasporas, to start and develop co-operation between UK and Baltic states science institutions” – said G. Kilinskaitė.

The conference reviewed history of Baltic communities in the UK, migration processes during different historic periods. Presentations and reports about Lithuanian diaspora in the UK were delivered by scientists V. Čiubrinskas, V. Petronis and K. Raškauskas. The event showcased films, revealing the variety of Baltic diaspora in the UK. During the visit G. Kilinskaitė together with leaders of Glasgow University discussed the possibilities of Lithuanian language studies. She also met representatives of Glasgow Lithuanian community.
