Baltic Art Form 2016

Baltic Art Form is delighted to present our second international cross cultural festival of dance, music, poetry, visual and performing arts in London, featuring cutting edge art and performances by Baltic and British artists.

The festival starts on FRIDAY, 3rd of June, at the Signet Contemporary Art gallery in Chelsea. The first London gallery specialising in Baltic arts will present “Baltic Dreams” — a collection of paintings by Aimee Birnbaum exploring the Baltic culture and ancient religious beliefs. On the evening of 3rd of June visitors to the Gallery will witness the actress Marta Hermida, starring in Chanel 5 TV series Henry VII, incarnating the Baltic Bee Goddess Austea and her drone husband Bubulos. The audience will be immersed in music composed specifically for the event by the Lithuanian composer Rūta Vitkauskaitė.

The central evening of the festival, the Baltic Gala Night, is on SATURDAY, 4th of June and will feature a mix of classical and electronic music, as well as dance and immersive participatory performances. The Lithuanian pianist Aretas Botyrius and the Hungarian violinist Betti Rácz will treat the public with a classic musical piece. The award-winning Latvian musicians and composers Platon Buravicky and Rick Feds with will play their latest contemporary compositions. In addition we are delighted to announce a performance of the Estonian award-winning pianist Sten Heinoja. Acknowledged choreographer and contemporary dance artist Klaudia Wittmann and stars from RAMBERT will demonstrate outstanding dancing pieces. The award-winning Lithuanian composer Rūta Vitkauskaitė will bring on stage her immersive participatory performance. The art collective ANALEMA GROUP will present the interactive sound and visual performance KIMA, exploring the common roots of the Baltic languages through a multilingual poem by Evgenia Emets and a composition created in collaboration with Ben Zucker, performed by the audience and a choir. Performances are going to be accompanied by live drawing of Maryleen Schiltkamp and life sculptures of Svetlana K-Lie. The night will end with the special guest, the world famous electronic musician ULRICH SCHNAUSS accompanied by visuals of Nat Urazmetova. Ulrich grew up in Kiel at the Baltic Sea cost and will dedicate his performance to his Baltic upbringing. Tickets are on sale: http://www.wegottickets.com/event/361288.

The festival ends on SUNDAY, 5th of June, with the Baltic Art Movies Night. The Movies Night will repeat the success of the last year and bring together historical and contemporary shorts from the Baltic States to examine the shifting political context in
which the films were produced. Discussions and Q&As curated by Charlotte Ginsborg will be complemented by Baltic
food and drinks.
