Baltic Art Exhibition at the Lithuanian Embassy, London-Opening 10th April 2015
Your opportunity to see a unique exhibition of Lithuanian Art, opening on the 10th April 2015, 6.30pm and running for one year at the Lithuanian Embassy, 2 Bessborough Gardens, Westminster, London SW1V 2JE.
Featured are diverse paintings of some of the Lithuanian artists from different generations: Jūratė Mykolaitytė, Klaudijus Petrulis, Danas Andriulionis, Paulius Juška, Arūnas Mėčius and Rytis Martinionis. The exhibition is drawn from the private collection of Robert Shopes (www.baltic-art-hub.com), created as a memorial inspired by Eugene Shopes and financed from an inheritance following his death. This will be the first exhibition drawing on the collection of Robert Shopes and is intended to illustrate the quality of Lithuanian painting and its accessibility both for viewing and purchase.
From the founder of the project, Robert Shopes:
"As best we could, we gathered together an overview of some of the contemporary art in the Baltic States, beginning with Lithuania. We wanted something progressive, not static, but searching out everything worth seeing and collecting. We have found an abundance of talent, that which is dazzling and accomplished, with the hope to surprise and delight.
"Extraordinary art lies as yet unseen in artists’ studios. There isn’t enough room in all the galleries to exhibit even all major work. This exhibition is an opportunity to fulfil the main aim of our Baltic Art project; to promote Lithuanian art in the UK and ensure it is more widely viewed and appreciated. I hope to use any funds from purchases to obtain more of this wonderful art from my grandparents’ native land.”
The private view is free and advance registration on santarieciaiuk@gmail.com is required.
The exhibition is free to visit by appointment. Call on +44 (0) 20 75922857 or send an email to g.stulgyte@gmail.com to arrange a visit.
