AMBASSADOR PARTICIPATED IN THE CHEQUE HANDLING CEREMONY
On 7th February 2013, the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania in the UK Ms Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė took part in the cheque handling ceremony. Ms Olga Jachimovič, President of the Lithuanian Chamber of Commerce in the UK presented cheque for 11 thousand pounds sterling to Mr Kastytis Baublys, Secretary and Legal Adviser of The Tiltas Trust. The donation was raised during the 2012 Christmas Charity Ball, attended by prominent Lithuanian and British businessman, politicians and diplomats.
During the ceremony, Ambassador highlighted the importance of nurturing charitable initiatives and congratulated both organisations on successful completion of the project, which will benefit those in greater need of assistance.
The Tiltas Trust will use the funds raised by LCCUK through their Charity Ball to help the Franciscan Brothers from Krėtinga to develop and launch the St. Francis Cancer Support Centre in Klaipėda during 2013; this will be the first purpose-designed and built support centre in Lithuania for cancer patients and their families. Other funding will go to support POLA, the newly established Umbrella Organisation for cancer support and palliative care organisations in Lithuania (www.pola.lt). In addition, Tiltas is encouraging the development of volunteering in Lithuania and is just about to launch a major consultation exercise through its web-site www.thetiltastrust.org
