AMBASSADOR MET WITH LONG STANDING FRIEND OF LITHUANIA REVD CANON MICHAEL BOURDEAUX
On 9th August 2013, Ambassador Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė met with Revd Canon Michael Bourdeaux, co-founder of Keston Institute, officer of the Cross of the Order of Lithuanian Grand Duke Vytautas the Great.
Ambassador thanked M. Bourdeaux for his perseverance in supporting Lithuania’s fight for freedom and assistance to the Lithuanian Catholic Church during the years of soviet occupation. “Your personal life-long experience and richness of resistance materials gathered by Keston Institute are of an immense value, especially helping to educate younger generations about the history of Lithuania and other repressed nations”, said A. Skaisgirytė Liauškienė.
In 1979, Revd Canon Michael Bourdeaux published Land of Crosses. The Struggle for Religious Freedom in Lithuania, 1939 - 1978. One of the author’s aims in this book is to enable the Catholics of Lithuania to represent their case to the world in their own words, and the many original documents contained in Land of Crosses include numerous case histories drawn from a series of samizdat (underground) literature smuggled out to the West, the Chronicle of the Lithuanian Catholic Church.
