Ambassador Eitvydas Bajarūnas visited the Speaker of the House of Commons Sir Lindsay Hoyle
On 18 January, the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to the United Kingdom (UK), Eitvydas Bajarūnas, was received by the Speaker of the House of Commons of the UK Parliament, Sir Lindsay Hoyle.
During the conversation, Ambassador Bajarūnas conveyed greetings to Sir L. Hoyle from the Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen. They discussed the need to promote parliamentary and party relations between Lithuania and the UK.
E. Bajarūnas emphasised the importance of unity and solidarity in maintaining uninterrupted support for Ukraine in the fight against Russia and thanked the UK for its significant role in ensuring security in the Baltic countries.
Ambassador Bajarūnas observed that the progress in the talks between the European Union (EU) and the UK regarding the Northern Ireland Protocol would permit an even stronger EU - UK unification. It would be beneficial not only in the fight against Russian aggression in Ukraine but also in solving other global challenges.
During the meeting, Mr Bajarūnas and Sir Hoyle discussed the need to promote economic relations between Lithuania and the UK. Ambassador Bajarūnas emphasised the role of the Lithuanian diaspora in the UK in strengthening bilateral relations between Lithuania and the UK. The Ambassador also mentioned the upcoming 700th anniversary of Vilnius and highlighted the historical significance of Litvaks in Lithuania.
Sir L. Hoyle was elected Speaker of the House of Commons on 4 November 2019. Sir Hoyle has been a Member of Parliament since 1997 when he was elected to represent Chorley with the Labor Party.
