Allies‘ contribution to security of the Baltic countries celebrated at the Lithuanian Embassy

15 June, 2016. The Lithuanian Embassy in London celebrated NATO Allies’ contribution to security of the Baltic countries. The 12 years of their NATO membership have observed a number of military exercises and missions in the region with many NATO member states playing their part in ensuring security of the Baltic states. The event at the Embassy of Lithuania cherished NATO solidarity, it also underlined the contribution the UK and Portugal have made to security in the Baltics.

“The Baltic states have enjoyed fruitful cooperation with the UK and Portugal in the military field. The Portuguese and the British jets have regularly patrolled over the Baltic Sky. The UK together with Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia are developing the Joint Expeditionary Force. The UK and Portugal have regularly sent troops to exercise in the Baltics. Lithuania looks forward to continuing enhanced cooperation with NATO allies”, the Lithuania Ambassador said.

The diplomat also noted that Lithuania has significantly increased its consecutive defence budgets which will reach NATO recommended 2% of GDP by 2018.

The evening to celebrate Allies’ contribution to security in the Baltic states was attended by the UK politicians, Military personnel, diplomats residing in London, media representatives as well as the Portuguese and Lithuanian Diaspora.
