A discussion was held at the Lithuanian Embassy on collective efforts in encouraging EU citizens living in the UK to vote in European Parliament elections

On 12 September 2013, the Embassy of Lithuania in London together with the European Movement UK held a roundtable discussion on the participation of EU citizens living in the UK at the European Parliament elections.

The Ambassador Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė highlighted “As the next European Parliament elections are only nine months away, this is a good opportunity to exchange views and experience with colleagues of the EU member state embassies on how to encourage the expats to vote, heighten their interest in European politics and improve the turnout at the next year’s elections”.

During the discussion the presentations were given by the representatives of EP Information office in London, European Movement UK, Office for National Statistics, EU member states embassies and non-governmental organization YouGov.

This discussion sets the scene for the conference on 17 October in Europe House where MEPs, politicians, representatives non-governmental organisations will discuss the preparation for the upcoming European Elections in the UK.

According to the Office for National Statisitics, 2.3 mln citizens of other EU member states live in the UK which makes up 4% of overall population of the UK.
