Issuance or replacement of a passport or identity card for children (under 16 years of age)

Issuance or replacement of a passport or identity card for children (under 16 years of age)

Documents are accepted only after prior online registration for an appointment.

There is no need to complete application forms in advance. They will be completed during the appointment at the embassy.

The application and other documents required for issuing a child’s passport or identity card must be submitted by one of the child’s parents or guardians. If the application is submitted by a guardian, a document establishing guardianship must be provided together with the guardian’s passport or identity card. Documents issued in the United Kingdom must be certified with an Apostille and translated into Lithuanian.

When applying for the issuance or replacement of a passport or identity card for a child aged 2 to 16, the child must also be present.

If the parents are divorced, the application for a passport or identity card may be submitted by:

  • the parent with whom the child’s place of residence has been established — by providing a court decision confirming this; the other parent — by providing written consent from the parent with whom the child’s residence is established (the signature must be certified by a notary or equivalent authority);
  • if the child’s residence has not been established, a document confirming the termination of marriage (court decision on divorce) must be provided.

The issuance or replacement of a passport or identity card for a child under 16 years of age takes about one month from the date of application.

The old passport or identity card does not need to be left at the embassy.

Required documents:

  • Child’s passport or identity card (if not lost).
  • Valid passport or identity card of one parent or guardian who attends the appointment with the child.
  • The child will be photographed at the embassy. This service is free of charge.

If you are applying for the first issuance of a passport or identity card for a child under 2 years of age (and the birth has already been registered in Lithuania), when the child’s presence is not required, you must provide two age-appropriate photographs of the child (photo requirements can be found here).

Consular fee for issuing a passport or identity card. Payment for consular services at the embassy can only be made by bank card (except American Express).

Collection of documents at the embassy: documents can be collected on weekdays from Monday to Friday, between 9:00 and 15:00. Upon arrival at the embassy, go to the passport reception area and approach an available counter to inform the officer that you have come to collect the passport.

Postal delivery: If you wish to receive the passport by post, provide a Special Delivery envelope prepaid for up to 100 grams (one envelope per document). If you wish to receive an identity card by post: provide 1 Special Delivery envelope prepaid for up to 100 grams when the identity card is for a child under 14 years of age, or from 14 years of age when you do not want certificates included in the identity card. Provide 2 Special Delivery envelopes prepaid for up to 100 grams when the identity card is for a person over 14 years of age and you want certificates included in the identity card. Envelopes must be purchased at the post office.

The embassy is not responsible for any loss of documents during postal delivery.

In all cases when submitting documents for the issuance of a passport or identity card, the consular officer has the right to request that the applicant provide additional documents and/or clarify the submitted data.

We remind you that after renewing your passport or identity card, you must update the information about your identity document in your United Kingdom residence status account (UK Visas and Immigration account). More information can be found here.
