Lithuanian playwright Marius Ivaškevičius at the the Royal Court Theatre International Residency 2011
1–23 July, 2011. Lithuanian playwright Marius Ivaškevičius takes part in the International Residency programme at the Royal Court Theatre, where he will continue working on his new play Expulsion, a play with an intense subject, examining the problem of the identity of the Lithuanian emigrant in London. The hardest thing for the protagonist having embarked on this journey will be divest himself of what he is.
The playwrights in the residency will be asked to develop a new play during their time in London, in collaboration with members of the Royal Court Theatre artistic team. The Residency is an intensive programme that combines a small number of group sessions with individual one-to-one meetings. There will also be time set aside dedicated to writing and rewriting. Each Playwright will be teamed with their own British theatre director and translator who will work throughout the Residency to help realise the play. There will also be the opportunity to work with a specially chosen team of actors in a workshop environment.
The Royal Court is the only new writing theatre with a commitment to working with playwrights across the world to develop new plays. Many new and exciting theatre projects have evolved in different parts of the world as a result of the programme including seasons of new international work at the Royal Court which have often included the work of former Residency participants.
