On 22 March, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gabrielius Landsbergis, met with the Governor of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro.

During the meeting, the Foreign Minister discussed the geopolitical situation, the impact of military conflicts on the global economy and measures that would create more security on both sides of the Atlantic.

“Lithuania is open to innovation, resistant to threats, and wants to strengthen transatlantic communion further,” Landsbergis said at the meeting.

The Foreign Minister invited Governor Shapiro to visit Lithuania with a business delegation and offered Pennsylvania defence industry companies to set up in Lithuania.

Pennsylvania and Lithuania enjoy close historical, cultural and defensive ties and have signed several bilateral cooperation documents. Pennsylvania is among the top 20 most robust economies in the world.

“The long-term partnership opens up wide opportunities for cooperation. Hopefully, economic relations with Pennsylvania will gain even greater momentum shortly, intensify expert consultations and provide the basis for a transatlantic success story,” the head of Lithuania’s diplomacy said at the meeting.

In 2022, the traditional North American Lithuanian Business Forum took place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

According to data from 2023, the trade turnover between Lithuania and the United States amounted to 4.8 billion euros, while the United States was Lithuania’s fourth-largest trading partner.
