The Embassy of Lithuania in the UK invites you to a Tribute Run in Commemoration of the Day of Defenders of Freedom of Lithuania. It will take place in Parsloes Park, Dagenham on January 11th 2019, Saturday, at 11 AM.
Lithuanian days in Scotland festival held in Edinburgh and Glasgow
Lithuanian Days in Scotland, a festival aimed at fostering cultural, social and academic ties between the two North European nations, was held in Edinburgh and Glasgow on 22-25 October. Having succeeded in catching the interest of both the local Lithuanian diaspora and a Scottish audience the festival started on a musical note as two Lithuanian virtuoso musicians in pianist Petras Geniušas and multi-instrumentalist Liudas Mockūnas performed The Sea in The Forest improvisation. The piece was inspired by the symphonic poems The Sea and In the Forest by one of Lithuania’s most celebrated composers Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis (1875-1911).

Lithuanian Days in Scotland, a unique series of events showcasing Lithuania, will be held in Edinburgh and Glasgow 22-25 October 2019. Over four days, local Scots and the Lithuanian community in Scotland will be invited, together with leading Lithuanian figures from the worlds of culture and academia like prof. Tomas Venclova, Petras Geniušas and Liudas Mockūnas, as well as young people and their Scottish collaborators working in the creative industries, to delve into the search for historical, cultural, and socials connections between these two North European nations.

RSS NATO Foreign Ministers discuss Alliance’s response to coronavirus pandemic
On 2 April, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius took part in a meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers by secure videoconference for the first time in the Alliance’s history. The meeting discussed the Alliance’s response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, situation in Iraq and Afghanistan, NATO’s role in the Middle East and North Africa region. NATO Ministers also exchanged their views on Russia, arms control, and relations with partners.

Plane lands with Lithuanian citizens from Vietnam and Thailand in Kaunas

On 31 March, an aircraft of Vietnam’s Bamboo Airways landed at Kaunas airport with 111 citizens returning to Lithuania from Vietnam and Thailand thanks to the efforts of Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Lithuania in China, and the Honorary Consul of Lithuania in Vietnam Nguyen The Kien.

On 23 March, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius participated in a video conference of the EU Foreign Affairs Ministers, who exchanged views on the international response to the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) with a particular focus on the repatriation of EU travelers stranded abroad. Foreign Ministers also discussed how to step up international cooperation in order to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

On 10 March, on the eve of the 30th anniversary of the Restoration of the Independence of Lithuania, Vilnius held the Bucharest Nine (B9) meeting of the foreign ministers of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, and Hungary. Delegates from the United States of America and NATO attended the meeting as guests. Gitanas Nausėda, President of the Republic of Lithuania, greeted the participants in the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania.
